Tiger Woods has come full circle.

In Uncategorized on March 16, 2010 at 4:37 PM

The world’s best golfer has announced that he will return to playing golf at this year’s Master’s Tournament in Augusta, Georgia. After a four-month hiatus, Eldrick “Tiger” Woods will attempt to put aside his off the field issues and play in the tournament where he won his first major. But why now? Why the Masters at Augusta?

The Masters is the safest place for Tiger to make his return. The Augusta National Golf Club is well respected among professional golfers and people who cover golf and for the most part, only people have always covered golf will be there. Had Tiger skipped the Masters and gone straight to the US Open, it would have been in a less controlled environment, where all types of fans could have served as a distraction.

Tiger Woods has taken breaks from golfing before, more specifically when he took time off in 2006 following the death of his father. Woods knows how to handle the adversity despite this being a different situation. It will be interesting to see if he is still in golfing shape and how his outpatient therapy for sex addiction may affect his play in Augusta.

Augusta is Woods’ favorite place to play, it will be a comfortable environment and golf fans everywhere, as well as his fellow golfers are excited to have him back. I think we all can expect something special at the Masters in April. The odds of winning the Masters are against him. The only person ever to win the Masters as their first tournament of the year is Ben Hogan in 1951. For Tiger to pull this off would continue to cement his legendary status.

2010 NFL Mock Draft 1.0

In Uncategorized on March 13, 2010 at 5:59 AM

Its that time of year again. New York hoops is going nowhere- college or pro. Baseball season hasn’t started yet, and as a Mets fan, baseball season isn’t coming until April… 2011.  Luckily, the football offseason is well under way and I haven’t jumped off a bridge yet. So here’s my first mock draft of what I hope is at least five mock drafts. I honestly feel like my mock drafts are on par with those of Pat Kirwan and and Vic Carucci of NFL.com. The difference between them and myself? Inside information. So, without further delay, here we go.

1. St. Louis (1-15)-  Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma - There are a lot of people out there that think the Rams would benefit from taking Ndamukung Suh, who is clearly the best defensive prospect in the draft. The Rams are moving on from Marc Bulger and need a successor. Besides, Adam Carriker was moved to defensive tackle and I don’t think taking Suh would be good for his psyche.  I also think that Jimmy Clausen is a better pick here but Bradford gets the edge because of the numbers he put up and the success he had in college.

2. Detroit (2-14)- Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska- As bad as the Lions were offensively, they were even worse defensively. The Lions gave up more points, yards, and passing yards than anyone else in the NFL and they were 25th in the league in rushing yards allowed. With that said, they’d be crazy to pass up on the best defensive prospect in the draft. Suh is going to make an impact right away and should help all three levels of defense.

3. Tampa Bay (3-13)- Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma – I think Tampa Bay would like to move up to take Suh because he draws a lot of comparisons to a former Buccaneer that they drafted out of Miami. If Suh is number 1 in terms of defensive linemen, then McCoy is 1a.

4. Washington (4-12) – Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma St - The Skins could also take Jimmy Clausen but I disagree with that. I think Mike Shanahan should work with Jason Campbell rather than come in and clean house. Plus I think with the retirement of Chris Samuels, they’ll need a left tackle to protect the quarterback and they’ll have to choose. Do they want the guy that makes the plays or the guy that protects the guy that makes plays?

5. Kansas City (4-12)- Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa -  Scott Pioli is a smart general manager and he knows how to build a team. I think this would be a little high to take Bulaga but he’s a solid offensive lineman and the second best in the draft.

6. Seattle (5-11) – Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame - Hasselbeck’s time is running down in Seattle and Clausen could be the quarterback of the future. Pete Carroll needs to put his mark on the team right away and Clausen could be his ticket to NFL redemption in his second tour of duty.

7. Cleveland (5-11) - Eric Berry, S, Tennessee - Joe Haden would be a good pick here but Cleveland is going to be wary of his slow 40 yard dash time (4.57) so Eric Berry is a good pick here. Berry is a leader, a hard hitter and has good instincts in the secondary.

8. Oakland (5-11) – Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland - The real question here is which workout warrior is Al Davis going to take this year. Let’s rewind a little. Darius Heyward-Bey ran a great 40 yard dash last year. His 2009-10 stats? 9 catches, 142 yards, 1 td. Michael Crabtree, who was a better prospect finished with 48 catches, 625 yards, and 2 tds… and he missed the first 7 weeks of the season. Imagine if he had come into camp on time and played a full season. The moral of the story? It doesnt matter what happens at the combine. Anthony Davis is a better player, but Bruce Campbell had a hell of a workout. He could still be a good player but it’ll be based on what he did in Indianapolis.

9. Buffalo (6-10) – Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma – The Bills GM Buddy Nix was asked about the team’s quarterbacks and this is what he said: “If they’re good enough, they’ll have a chance to be here … It’s hard to throw when you’re lying on your back.” That would indicate they’re looking to take someone to protect whoever is throwing the ball. I personally think they’d be better off taking a wide receiver and at this point in the draft, Dez Bryant is going to be the best player available, hands down. But I guess Bryant is useless if no one can throw to him.

10. Jacksonville (7-9) – Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma St - There is no reason Dez Bryant should fall this far, but if he does, Jacksonsille has to take him. Mike Sims-Walker is their best receiver and they have no depth. Another option here could be Joe Haden.

11. Denver – from Chicago (7-9) – Joe Haden, CB, Florida -  Denver had a pretty good first half to their season last year before it all fell apart. Most of their success came from the defense and I think Joe Haden would be a good addition to the secondary. Offensively, I’d consider adding a wideout if I were them.

12. Miami (7-9) - Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida - If you had asked me who the Dolphins would have taken at this point back in January, I would have told you either this guy Dunlap or Brandon Spikes. Spikes didn’t impress anyone at the combine and Dunlap has a lot of talent to pass up on. Parcells might be wary because of his off the field issues.

13. San Francisco (8-8) – Earl Thomas, CB/S, Texas- The Niners need to add some depth in the secondary and Thomas is a really versatile guy back there.

14. Seattle – from Denver (8-8) – Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers – So now that the Seahawks have their guy under center, who’s protecting him? Anthony Davis is 20 years old, he’s quick, he’s strong and he’ll fit in well with Pete Carroll.

15. New York Giants (8-8) – Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama – There’s no question the Giants want to bolster their linebacking corps especially with the release of Antonio Pierce. McClain won’t be able to replace Pierce’s leadership abilities and I don’t think he’ll make an immediate impact.

16. Tennessee (8-8) – Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida – Conventional wisdom will tell you that Pierre-Paul won’t fall this far, and a little part of me favors Georgia Tech’s Derrick Morgan over Pierre-Paul but the same argument I made about Suh and McCoy can be made. If Pierre-Paul is 1, then Morgan is 1a.

17. San Francisco – from Carolina (8-8)- Taylor Mays, S, USC- Mays makes too much sense here. Mike Singletary is a defensive guy, Mays is a monster at safety and he’s a local guy having played at Southern Cal.

18. Pittsburgh (9-7) – Mike Iupati, OG, Idaho – The Steelers’s offensive line hasn’t been the same since they let Alan Faneca go to the Jets, and they’ve just been getting better and better. They could use an upgrade on the interior line.

19. Atlanta (9-7) – Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech – Aside from being a hometown guy, Morgan could be brought in as a guy who can rotate with Abraham and Anderson on the defensive line.  Another option for them is Brian Price from UCLA. They do need help in the secondary, but there’s some depth there and they could grab someone in the second round.

20. Houston (9-7) – Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise St-  The Texans didn’t have much depth at cornerback to begin with and they just traded away Dunta Robinson. Needless to say, a cornerback is a need for them.

21. Cincinnati  (10-6) – Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame -  The Bengals have to keep with the Ravens after their acquisition of Anquan Boldin. Pairing Tate with Ochocinco gives the Bengals a threat they lost when Chris Henry passed away.

22. New England  (10-6)- Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma – The Patriots don’t just have a gaping hole at tight end, they have a bottomless pit. And what’s worse? They let Ben Watson sign somewhere else. Gresham isn’t particular great as a blocker but he’s faster than a lot of linebackers and bigger than most cornerbacks. He can give the Pats a new dimension they’ve never really had.

23. Green Bay (11-5) – Charles Brown, OT, USC – Brown is more of a later first round/early second round pick to me but its a solid pick here. Rodgers put up decent numbers and led the Packers to the postseason while playing most of the season on his back. Chad Clifton isn’t very good anymore.

24. Philadelphia  (11-5) – Sergio Kindle, OLB/DE, Texas- Kindle reminds me of Brian Orakpo. They’re not talking about Kindle’s motor as much as they were talking about Orakpo’s but he’s more of a hybrid defensive player and he could end up being a replacement for Victor Abiamiri.

25. Baltimore  (9-7) – Kareem Jackson, CB, Alabama – Its amazing to me that the Ravens were able to pull off a trade for one of the league’s best receivers and still keep their first round pick. As crazy as it might sound, the Ravens should bolster their defense a little, specifically in the secondary.

26. Arizona (10-6)- Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri – Weatherspoon is a great linebacker. He racks up tackles and he’ll be an adequate replacement for Karlos Dansby.

27. Dallas (11-5) – Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers- As good as the Cowboys defense was last year, its one weakness was in the secondary. Newman did a better than average job, and they’re still waiting for Mike Jenkins to come into his own, but there isn’t too much depth after Orlando Scandrick.

28. San Diego (13-3)- CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson – Its hard to imagine the first running back being taken this late in the first round but I don’t think this crop of running backs is as impressive as usual but its still a deep class.

29. New York Jets  (9-7) – Brian Graham, DE, Michigan – Graham was one of the few bright spots on a less than stellar Michigan team. He works hard and Rex Ryan is getting a valuable player than can replace Marques Douglas.

30. Minnesota  (12-4)  Brian Price, DT, UCLA – Pat Williams can’t play forever and Brian Price is really underrated. He’s got skills and in the meantime, he can learn from watching Pat and Kevin Williams do some damage.

31. Indianapolis  (14-2) – Maurkice Pouncey, C, Florida – While we’re on the topic of taking players that will benefit from watching, Mike Pouncey is good enough to play right now, but Jeff Saturday isn’t done yet.  I also think it would be great idea for them to draft his twin brother Mike. Keeping this tandem together would be a coup.

32. New Orleans  (13-3) – Everson Griffen, DE, USC – Griffen can get a little lazy but he’s still a valuable pick here for the Saints.

Thats my first mock draft. There are a few question marks for me. I’m still waiting to see how the pro days go to see how things shake out. There are a few guys, namely Brandon Spikes, who hurt themselves by not running at the combine but I’m hoping some of these guys come to their senses and do everything at their pro days. I’d like to see more from Sam Bradford so that more people can see the difference between him and Clausen. Any questions or comments? Email me at s_talouis@yahoo.com.

NFL Offseason… Its FAN-tastic!

In Uncategorized on March 6, 2010 at 3:51 AM

There are those that cling to the idea that baseball is America’s pasttime, and while I look forward to every spring no matter how woeful my Mets happen to be, no one can deny the popularity of football. Even in a weak free agent market, a lot of teams have already made huge moves to improve their respective teams. With an uncapped year looming, unrestricted free agents looked to cash in and a few guys got a huge payday.

One of the Giants biggest needs was in the secondary and they made a huge move to help out the defensive backfield significantly. Antrel Rolle accepted the Giants offer of $37 million over 5 years, with $15 million of the contract in guaranteed money. The prospect of having two impact safeties (both of whom are former Miami Hurricanes) is one that should scare some of the other NFC teams. This also alleviates another problem- who to take in the NFL draft. The Giants had several options in April’s draft but in my opinion they can focus on drafting a player that fills their huge hole at middle linebacker. Alabama’s Rolando McLain was one of the country’s best linebackers and while he might not have an immediate impact, he’ll smart, instinctive and he’s a great tackler. The Giants have a lot more needs, especially along the offensive and defensive lines, but signing Rolle is a great start.

As far as the Jets are concerned, their offseason plans had to be adjusted because of the NFL’s “Final 8″ Rule. Because of the uncapped year, the rule states that the final four teams shall not be permitted to negotiate and sign any unrestricted free agent to a player contract except for players who acquired their status by being cut or were on the final four team when their contract expired. Playoff teams five thru eight get a break to sign one player with a salary of $4,925,000 or more and any number of players with a first-year salary of no more than $3,275,000 and an annual increase of no more than 30 percent in the following years. Basically, it means that the Jets wouldn’t have been allowed to sign a guy like Julius Peppers unless he had been cut by the Panthers. Still, the Jets came away with what could be a steal of a trade by acquiring Antonio Cromartie from the Chargers for a few draft picks. If Cromartie can play as well as he did in 2007, the Jets defense will continue the dominance that carried them into the postseason.

Around the rest of the league, there was a lot of activity. The Ravens got Anquan Boldin from the Cardinals in exchange for two draft picks in 2010, Julius Peppers signed a huge deal with the Bears, Karlos Dansby signed with the Dolphins, and Kyle VandenBosch signed with the Lions… and this is all just on the first day of free agency.  While I don’t think the Lions are going to be that great but it does show that teams all over the league are spending the money to make their teams better. Parity makes for a better league overall. The truth is we won’t know how good or bad the Giants and Jets will be until August but I think both teams have done a good job in the offseason.

Do Rappers Hate Their Mothers?

In Stanley Fritz on February 18, 2010 at 9:26 PM

http://media.defsounds.com/uploads/assets/153/231/32302/asset.jpeg

This woman is the one who gives birth to you, and raises you from child to adult, she follows and supports you through all of your trials and tribulations, cries for your pain, celebrates for your struggles, and in many cases is the motivation to your unbridled ambition for success. She is your mother. Beleive it or not rappers have mothers as well, these unsung hero’s helped to develop and nurture the rapper that you so faithfully follow today. They toiled endlessley working everyday sometimes two jobs, to make sure that this young man had a fair chance in life. Through this developement if things are natural, he should find himself wanting a female partner who is at least somewhat similar to the image of a woman that his mother has portrayed, but in Hip Hop, this dosent happen, instead these artist look, the spitting images of their mothers in the eye, give an agressive #Kanyeshrug and greets this woman with the word Bitch.

Hip Hop in its short time as a recognized genre of music, has seen many artist walk through its doors of sucess. These artist have spoke on topics ranging from their, neighborhoods, childhood experiences, the regular hustle, current fashion trends and even their families. But one natural occurance that I have noticed in this genre that we all love so dearly, was the regularity in which women are degraded. This is not to criticize any artist, or to put a negative spotlight on any said individual, but instead it is a deeper look into what motivates the men in this industry who claim to have so much love for their birth givers. To disrespect someone who was made in the same image of their mothers. They degrade females on a constant basis, and for this reason we must ask ourselves, do rappers hate their mothers?

It is common for men to search for in their female counterpart some traits that they would find in their mother, this is understandable as she is the prime example of womanhood that any man has. So the females he interacts with, along with the ones he date will always on some level they have a relation to his mother, whether that be through physical, mental, or even emotional traits. Although it’s a bit of a stretch, the way that he addresses, or acts towards these women can be taken as a reflection of the perception of his own mother.

http://media.defsounds.com/uploads/assets/152/230/32301/asset.jpegWith that being said, Rappers proclaim undying love for their mothers, but in the very next instance, write women off as groupies, and hoes. They Swear to defend their mothers, with their own lives if they have to, but in some lyrics brag about physically abusing women, or forcing them into sexual acts. Rap mega star Jay-Z has several songs dedicated to his mother, in his album, but was a known womanizer before he married now wife Beyonce Knowles. Rappers like Drake, and Lil Wayne constantly talk about the influence of their mothers on their lives, but in the same instance brag about the amount of women they have conquered. To put things quite simply rappers preach, but never practice.

Although some people will try to excuse these actions with the idea that these women do not represent what the said rappers mothers reflected, this argument is null as all of these victims are female, just like their mothers, and if anything else have that one small trait in common. Which brings to question, why are so many rappers so disrespectful, or apathetic towards the female sex? Is this a way to express homosexual or erotic feelings towards men by lashing out at women, Is there some sort of internal resent that can only be expressed through disparraging words, and promiscuousness, and if so where does this hate stem from?

Did their mothers do something wrong to them while they were growing up, and if not what motivates them to be so disrespectful to the one thing that so many claim to adore? The most logical answer seems to be an inner hatred for their mothers and women in general, there is no other way to explain it, because their statements contradict their actions. They portray their love for women, than write them off as replacable. Proclaim devotion to their lovers, but cheat on them. Protect their daughters, but lay their hands on someone elses daughter. These examples and many more are proving points to a possible resentment, just think about it. I say everyday that I love my laptop, I do not in the next instant poor a bottle of champaign on my laptop, or use it for five minutes, get bored, call it a Bitch and purchase a new one. I dont behave this way because the Laptop has meaning to me.

So if these rappers, love their women, their sisters, and their daughters; what exactly is going on here? There is clearly a disconnect between love and hate through music and it is one that we must discuss and research to discover. But until than it is the job of you loyal fans to figure it out. What is your take on the issue?

2010 NFL Draft: Position Rankings

In Stanley Talouis on February 15, 2010 at 9:04 PM

Now that the Super Bowl has come and gone, this is the time of year when I get bored. Baseball doesn’t start for a month or so, professional basketball doesn’t pique my interest that much anymore (because I’m a Knicks fan) and march madness doesn’t get mad until… well, March. So I thought I’d do things a little earlier this year. I have no allegiance toward either team in the big game this year, so I can focus on what my team (and the other 31) will have to do in the draft to improve in 2010.  Of course, before I do that I’m going to break down the top players at each position.

2. Taylor Mays, USC

3. Earl Thomas, Texas

Time to be concerned…

In Stanley Talouis on January 28, 2010 at 11:08 PM

With the NFL season rapidly coming to an end, I’ve come to terms with the fact that once football season ends, baseball season will be around the corner. Under normal circumstances, there would be no reason for me not to be excited. But this year, the feeling I have is what can only be considered the opposite of excitement. Anxiety is probably the operative feeling.

Jerry Manuel & Omar Minaya

Being a Giants fan, I’ve had the past few weeks of the playoffs for this thought to really sink in. There are no indications that the Mets are going to be good in 2010. None. As it stands right now… our starting catcher would be a backup on most teams… our starting first baseman is a defensive liability… our second baseman is an albatross that we can’t get rid of… our shortstop is coming off a serious injury that should have only sidelined him for a few weeks but ended up being out all last season… our third baseman had his worst statistical season of his career last year… our newest acquisition in left field has a balky knee (which scares me with our medical staff)… our starting center fielder is going to begin the season on the DL… our number 1 starter is coming off surgery… and we have no one solid in the rotation behind him.

I haven’t even mentioned that we traded away a decent pitcher in the bullpen for a washed up fourth outfielder. The bright side to that deal is that we’re not paying most of his contract. But doesn’t it look weird that the Angels are willing to pay the Mets almost $20 million to take Gary Matthews Jr off their hands? Fans can’t put too much blame on the Mets front office for not being aggressive in free agency. Everyone knew it was going to be a weak free agent class and the Mets were adamant about not over-paying for marginal talent. But there was talent to be had. Its inexplicable why the Mets didn’t even make an offer to Jason Marquis, a New York native who wanted to play for his hometown team. And then to let Marquis sign with a division rival? Not cool. There was Randy Wolf, Joel Piniero, Bengie Molina, and a few others. All of which were players that would have made the Mets a better team, but they dropped the ball.

The Mets 2010 season will be based purely on hopes, ifs and wishes.  IF Maine, Pelfrey, and Perez pitch as well as they can, the Mets can expect a few more wins. IF everyone stays healthy, the Mets have a shot to be competitive in their own division. At this point, the only if I can guarantee is this – IF the Mets underachieve for yet another season, Jerry Manuel and Omar Minaya will be looking for employment elsewhere.

Obama’s State of the Union Address Shows Us Who’s Boss

In Selena Hill on January 28, 2010 at 5:15 PM

via whitehouse.gov

Though many parts of his speech incited cheer and laughter, President Barack Obama delivered a strong and forceful message in the State of the Union speech Wednesday night.  ”I don’t quit,” he proclaimed as he vowed to continue to push for change and tackle national deficit, job loss, and big banks among other things.

Despite the tiresome and now weary health care debate, Obama urged for a spirit of resiliency telling Congress  ”Don’t walk away from reform.”  He continued: “Let us find a way to come together and finish the job for the American people.  Let’s get it done.”

In another stab, he called out the seemingly whimpering Dems  stating: “To Democrats, I would remind you that we still have the largest majority in decades, and the people expect us to solve problems, not run for the hills.”

Obama then made mention of the filibuster-threatening Republicans (synonymously known as the party of “No”) saying “Just saying no to everything may be good short-term politics, but it’s not leadership. We were sent here to serve our citizens, not our ambitions.”

The president also used his speech to jab a few at the legislative halting Senate.  In a more indirect way, he began a few statements praising the House for taking steps towards a jobs bill, and then added that, “I urge the Senate to do the same, and I know they will.”  But “I want a jobs bill on my desk,” he demanded afterward.

In a more direct hit, he called out the Senate for preventing the creation of a bipartisan fiscal commission designed to address the country’s deficit.   “Now, yesterday,” he began, “the Senate blocked a bill that would have created this commission. So I’ll issue an executive order that will allow us to go forward, because I refuse to pass this problem on to another generation of Americans.”

However, Obama’s most hard-hitting punch maybe have been aimed at the Supreme Court due to their recent decision to overturn precedent law which limited the amount of funding corporations and lobbyists could donate to political campaigns.  ”With all due deference to separation, last week the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests –- including foreign corporations –- to spend without limit in our elections.”  He added “I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities. They should be decided by the American people. And I’d urge Democrats and Republicans to pass a bill that helps to correct some of these problems.”

Obama’s State Of The Union Address was strong and power hitting.  He addressed the issues and changes he plans to carry out while also using logic and sway to get his opposition on board with his agenda.  Using a stern tone, he told us what needed to be done and how it should be done.  Lets see if this overtone will cause hard hitting results.

I am still trying to figure out where she fits in my earbuds to better detect her “sound” because Ms. Minaj experiments frequently and quickly it’s almost a second job trying to keep up!  Nonetheless, she is a newbie I love-to-hate :)

GIRLFRIEND, is a fly track to dedicate to your BFF whoever that may be and put it on BLAST while driving by the HATERZ.  This is a sweet song about friends since Brandy hit us with Best Friend back in the mid-90s!

Line from GirlFriend: “Whenever I slide through,I gotta go buy two/If i get it in the pink,I get her the light-blue”.

Next up on my list is: YOUR LOVE, this is slower than most of Nicki’s material.  Miss Minaj show’s a SMOOTHER side of herself that only a certain man can do with his love. :)

Line from Your Love: “Anyway, I think I met him in the sky; When I was a Geisha, he was Samari”

Lastly, F U Silly, which is not Nicki’s song but she feature’s on it with Cassie.  Remember not too long ago Miss Harajuku Barbie gave us a line about “taking Cassie away from Diddy” on Little Freak?  Well, I find it safe to observe she got what she wanted with this track!  Nicki plays with her delivery and raps with a british accent.

A british accent, hmmm, about that one…

Line From Nicki in F U Silly: “Hmmm, is that my cue? I’m looking for some brain to boost my IQ”

New Mattel: Mariah Carey & Nicki Minaj

In Vanessa Denis on January 22, 2010 at 5:32 PM

So Miss “Harajuku Barbie” has a new BFF outside of her YoungMoney clique, Mariah Carey.  The two got together to remix a track from Mariah’s “Memoir of an Imperfect Angel” which is due to be re-released later this year full of remixes.

The Harajuku Barbie in Dang-A-Lang, Shakin’ It For Daddy, Little Freak, and BedRock, had a flow that was gettin’ sick and becoming her OWN.  Prior to that there was always an undertone of Foxy Brown other female rappers, in her rapping style, so with the tracks listed, HER rapping was starting to get DISTINCT.

BUT, Nicki’s verse on Mariah’s Remix “Up Out My Face” was a disappointment.  Nicki, Nicki Lewinsky, you could have come harder!

There was no attitude, now killer swag, no vicious lyrics to match the passionate request of Mariah singing to get “Up Out My Face!”  As for flow, it’s not as tight as the tracks I listed, something she did again on “F U Silly” with Cassie. That review is coming soon :)

Check it out.   Does the remix suffice your palate??

Monica: Everything To Me

In Vanessa Denis on January 11, 2010 at 1:57 PM

Monica had done it again and had not done this well since “Miss Thang.” This is a hard-core love song that gets deep in your soul!

Here it is just Monica and the Mic; raw vocals & talent where the production compliments her voice instead of compete with it.

KFC Ad Gets Viewers Fried

Here’s the scenario: A TV ad displays a white guy who is swamped by a crowd of rattled up Black people singing and dancing.  He becomes frustrated and in order to ease the mass he hands out a bucket of fried which immediately silences the noise and excitement.

Now here’s the question:  Is this a portrayal of racism?

Digging deeper:  What if this ad originates outside of US borders in a completely different continent with different standards and  principles of race relation.  And which does not carry the historic and stereotypical association of Black Americans and fried chicken?  Then, is it still a portrayal of racism?

That’s the question which has sparked debate in the U.S.  online community after the Australian branch of the KFC fast-food chain released a commercial in which a white cricket fan uses chicken as a ploy to ease the crowd of hyper West Indians surrounding him.

In the commercial he asks: “Need a tip when you’re stuck in an awkward situation?”  He then proceeds to hand out KFC chicken.   As the crowd began to simmer down, he expresses relief and says “Too easy.”

After the ad was leaked over the internet, KFC Australia was stormed with criticism by US viewers accusing the company of being racially insensitive.  In effect, the Australian chain recently removed the ad and released a statement saying: ”While we believe this light-hearted commercial has been well understood by Australian cricket fans, to avoid the possibility of any further offence being caused by the advertisement here or online overseas, KFC will cease running the commercial immediately.”

In addition, the chain says:  ”KFC Australia apologizes unreservedly for any offence caused which of course was wholly unintended.”

And in defense, the chain declares: “ We unequivocally condemn discrimination of any type and have a proud history as one of the world’s leading employers for diversity.”

Since then American internet users have continued to question whether we are being over analytical of the ad or is the criticism justified due to our history of deep seeded and hurtful racist images.

My question is as follows: Is it fair to accuse the international world of depicting racist conceptions though other countries do not share the same history and boundaries?  Or should international media be more conscious and aware when they produce TV images with the potential to leak out and stir up feelings of hurt and degradation to an ethnic population?

Watch the video, and decide for yourself.

Another Democrat Backs Out Of The 2010 Election

Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) via wikimedia.org

On Wednesday January 6, 2010 Senator Christopher J. Dodd, a Democrat from Connecticut, announced that he will not be running for reelection in the 2010 midterm election. Dodd’s retirement plans were revealed soon after Sen. Byron Dorgan, a Dem from North Dakota, unexpectedly declared that he would be stepping down from his position in the Senate thus making way for Republicans to gain seats and bring an end to the current Dem 60-vote majority.

Dodd’s decision to forego a sixth term reelection came as no surprise being that he would have faced a tough campaign come November against prospective Republican candidates Linda McMahon, the wealthy CEO of WWE, or former Rep. Rob Simmons. Dodd’s popularity took a turn for the worst after his failed attempt for presidency in the 2008 elections and after receiving harsh criticism for being a major player in writing the Wall street bailout package. He was also scrutinized for accepting a low-interest loan from Countrywide Financial. In addition, recent polls show that the incumbent senator is trailing McMahon by a small margin and Simmons by double digits. On the bright side, Dodd’

s retreat allows for Richard Blumenthal, a popular attorney general and stronger Dem candidate, to run for the seat.

Overall, the lost of Democrat seats and the gain of a Republican advantage would be a huge damper to the Dem-controlled senate, especially at a time when they bank on their majority vote to pass Dem supported legislation such as health care reform.

Relishing in the potential to gain seats, TPM reports that the National Republican Senatorial Committee released a statement calling Sen. Dorgan’s decision to step down “another excellent pick-up opportunity for Republicans in 2010,” said the NRSC spokesman Brian Walsh.

Walsh continued to say that Dorgan’

s leave “is indicative of the difficult environment and slumping approval ratings that Democrats face as a result of their out of control tax-and-spend agenda in Washington.”

“We fully intend to capitalize on this opportunity by continuing to recruit strong candidates who can win these seats in November,” he stated.

The Latest: Dodd: ‘This Is My Moment To Step Aside’

Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) formally announced his retirement from the senate after a 35 year political run around noon on Wednesday calling it “my moment to step aside.”  He explained that he gave much thought before coming to this conclusion and touched upon the criticisms he faced during his career.  Thanking his Connecticut supporters he said “You honored me beyond words with your confidence.”  He then added that “there been times that my position and actions have caused some of you to question that confidence, I regret that.”   In addition, he mentioned that “I found myself in the toughest political shape of my career.”

Lastly, he remarked that “there is nothing more pathetic, in my view, than a politician who announces that they are only leaving public light to spend more time with their family.”  Though his two young children will benefit from the decision, he continued, they are not the reason for his decision.

Maino – “Get Em Tiger”

In Vanessa Denis on January 3, 2010 at 10:27 PM

Hi guys, so Maino did it again, but did it by poking fun at Tiger Woods. The title of his newest track is “Get Em Tiger” where he blatantly raps that he cannot be faithful! (Can more men admit this?)

Oh, if only Tiger could put out a diss record right back, how fly would that be?!

The record is funny and worth the listen/download. Check out the video for the full review!

Yup :)
